With “Game of Thrones” nearing its end, author Geroge R R Martin and HBO have decided on their next collaboration. It will be an adaptation of fantasy novel, “Who Fears Death”.

On Monday, author Nnedi Okorafor announced that the cable network has optioned her science fiction and fantasy novel with the “Game of Thrones” creator on board to adapt and produce the series for the television.

“My World Fantasy Award-winning novel ‘Who Fears Death’ has been optioned by HBO and is now in early development as a TV series with George R R Martin as executive producer. Note: This did not happen overnight. It’s been nearly four years coming,” Okorafor wrote in a Facebook post.

The novel is set in Sudan, where the light-skinned Nuru oppress the dark-skinned Okeke. The protagonist, Onyesonwu, of the Igbo community, is an Ewu, i.e. the child of an Okeke woman raped by a Nuru man. On reaching maturity, she goes on a quest to defeat her sorcerous father Daib using her magical powers.
