The Goa government does not plan to allow Ola or any other cab aggregators to function in the state, transport minister, Sudin Dhavalikar said on Thursday.
He said this in a written reply to a question from Nationalist Congress party member, Churchill Alemao in the assembly.
Several ruling BJP leaders, including Nilesh Cabral, have been demanding the introduction of Ola and Uber like cab aggregators in Goa, accusing a section of taxi drivers in the state of ruining the state’s reputation as a tourism destination by overcharging and improper behaviour.
Of late, a Delhi court had summoned both Ola and Uber for allegedly violating the permit rules. The cab service providers were accused by the court for allegedly running taxis in the national capital without licence and overcharging the passengers.
Over a million tourists come to Goa every year and it is a popular tourist destination all over the country.
