Gold Prices Drop: Gold prices took a sharp fall today after reaching record levels earlier this week. The price of spot gold dropped 2 % to around $4,264.91 per ounce, while US gold futures for December delivery went down 1.9 % to $4,278.50 per ounce. The US dollar index also rose 0.3 %, which made gold more expensive for people using other currencies. This comes just a day after gold hit an all-time high of $4,381.21 per ounce.

Why did Gold Price Jump High?

Gold has gone up a massive 63 % this year, which is one of the biggest jumps ever seen, reported ET.. Experts say this rise happened because people are scared about global tensions and want a safe place for their money. Central banks around the world are also buying more gold, and investors believe that the US Federal Reserve might soon cut interest rates. All these things together made gold prices go up very fast.

However the some experts think gold’s rise is too quick and could face small drops. Nitesh Shah, a commodities strategist at WisdomTree, said, “The speed is being a bit aggressive and as a result of that, we will get pullbacks each time we hit those fresh highs.” Many investors who made good profits are now selling their gold, which is one reason the price has fallen today.

What Happens Next?

Analysts are watching the US consumer price index (CPI) data, which comes out this Friday. The data might show a 3.1 % rise in prices from last year. If that happens, the US central bank could cut interest rates by 25 basis points next week. When interest rates go down, gold usually becomes stronger because it does not pay interest like bank savings do.

The experts still say gold might not rise in a straight line anymore. UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo said, “There are still many market participants that did not participate in (gold’s) rally and are looking to get exposure if there is a price setback.” That means some people are waiting for prices to drop a little before buying again.
