Days after the deadly incident, at least seven more children died of encephalitis in the past 48 hours at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College and Hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district. Between 7 August and 11 August, 63 children had died at the same hospital allegedly due to lack of oxygen supply. Children are constantly losing lives in the BRD hospital.

While chief minister, Yogi Adityanath had claimed that the children had died of encephalitis, Uttar Pradesh health minister, Siddharth Nath Singh had denied.

Earlier on Tuesday, former principal of BRD Medical College and Hospital Dr Rajiv Mishra and his wife Dr Purnima Shukla were arrested in Kanpur. The couple had been named in the First Information Report filed by the Uttar Pradesh government. The FIR was based on an inquiry report prepared by a panel led by UP Chief Secretary Rajeev Kumar. Further probe is on in the matter.
