Govt declares Radha, Krishna birthplaces as pilgrimage sites

The Uttar Pradesh government declared Vrindavan and Barsana in Mathura district as pilgrimage sites on Friday.

While Vrindavan is popular as the birthplace of Lord Krishna where he and his elder brother Balram were raised, Barsana is the birthplace of Radha.

As lakhs of devotees and tourists visit these two places on a daily basis, the UP government took the step.

The government has decided to declare the Nagar Palika Parishad Vrindavan and Nagar Panchayat Barsana in Mathura district as pilgrimages sites, said a government order issued by principal secretary, Awanish Awasthi.
