Halal certified nail polish for Muslim women now in market

In order to facilitate Muslim women to wear nail polishes, Orly, an international brand has launched its latest range of ‘breathable’ nail paint called HalalPaint. For the venture, the company has collaborated with the popular US website, The Muslim Girl.

According to The Muslim Girl, the nail paint is made up of ingredients which will allow water permeate to the skin during ablutions.

In order to understand the importance of this nail paint, one must be aware of the fact that according to Sharia laws, Muslim women are barred from wearing nail polish because it prevents water permeation to their skin during ablutions as it is necessary before offering prayers. Similarly, they are also barred from applying makeup, which to be precise is considered haraam in Islam.

However, to make things flexible, Orly has come up with a ‘haal-certified’ breathable range of nail polish, which will solve the problem for women. The nail polish was launched during the month of Ramadan.

The decision, however, received mixed responses on social media. Some considered it to be a marketing trick while some supported the product. Products have been allotted quirky names like “Haram-Bae”, “Wallah Bro Wipe Out”, “What the Fatima?”. The product was also criticised as some people were offended by the name “What the Fatima?”. In order to change it, people are tweeting about the product and are asking to sign the petition.
