Happy Guru Nanak Jayanti 2021: Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti is also known as Gurpurab is the most prominent festival of Sikhs. It is the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh religion and the first of ten Sikh gurus. It is a sacred festival and is celebrated by the Sikhs all around the world with great enthusiasm.

When is Gurpurab 2021?

This year Gurpurab festival is coming on November 19, 2021. The date changes every year as per the Hindu calendar because the day is celebrated in the month of Kartik on the full moon day.

The Celebration of Gurpurab:

On the occasion of Gurpurab, Gurudwaras are decorated with lights and flowers. Also, people lit clay lamps called Diyas with ghee in respect of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Gurpurab festivities begin at least two days before with the reading of the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh community’s sacred scripture.

The Akhand Path is a 48-hour non-stop reading of the holy book. During the days of celebration, processions are performed in many regions of states like Punjab and Delhi, where people do a lot of Sewa by cleaning the road before the procession for the Palki or Palanquin and providing free food and beverages to everyone, regardless of caste or background.

The Panj Pyaras, the Five Beloved Ones bearing the Sikh flag, Nishan Sahib, lead these processions. The first Panj Pyaras played an important part in establishing Sikhism’s history since they were the first to be baptised in the Sikh initiation rite of Amrit Sanchar. Each Sikh guru has a unique collection of hymns that are chanted on their birthday. Following this session, people gather for a reading from the holy book known as the Katha or reading session. After this, people frequently attend kirtan, when shabads in honour of Guru Nanak are sung.

The festivities, like in all gurudwaras, do not end without a community feast known as langar. This is provided to everyone who visits the gurdwara, regardless of caste, creed, or religion. On Gurpurab, unique dishes are prepared as an offering to the Sikh community’s founder on his birthday. The meal is prepared at the gurudwara’s communal kitchen. And is served with love and respect to the ‘Sangat’ while doing ‘Sewa’.

Let no man in the world live in delusion. Without a Guru, none can cross over to the other shore.

Those who have loved are those that have found God.

He who has no faith in himself can never have faith in God.

Dwell in peace in the home of your being, and the Messenger of Death will not be able to touch you.

Whatever kind of seed is sown in a field, prepared in due season, a plant of that same kind, marked with the peculiar qualities of the seed, springs up in it.

Even Kings and emperors with heaps of wealth and vast dominion cannot compare with an ant filled with the love of God.

The production of children, the nurture of those born, and the daily life of men, of these matters woman is visibly the cause.

If there is one God, then there is only His way to attain Him, not another. One must follow that way and reject the other. Worship not him who is born only to die, but him who is eternal and is contained in the whole universe.

Speak only that which will bring you honour.

Burn worldly love, rub the ashes and make ink of it, make the heart the pen, the intellect the writer, write that which has no end or limit.

The world is a drama, staged in a dream.

I bow at His Feet constantly, and pray to Him, the Guru, the True Guru, has shown me the way.

If the people use the wealth bestowed on them by God for themselves alone or for treasuring it, it is like a corpse. But if they decide to share it with others, it becomes sacred food.

Riches cannot be gathered without sin and evil means.

From its brilliancy, everything is illuminated.

Your mercy is my social status.

Alone let him constantly meditate in solitude on that which is salutary for his soul, for he who meditates in solitude attains supreme bliss.

One cannot comprehend Him through reason, even if one reasoned for ages.

I am neither a child, a young man, nor an ancient; nor am I of any caste.
