Noted advocate Harish Salve, who fought India’s case at the International Court of Justice against the death penalty provided to Kulbhushan Jadhav by Pakistan, has charged Re 1 as fee, informed external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj in a tweet.
Swaraj’s tweet came in response to a tweet by one Sanjeev Goyal. Goyal had said that India could have got any good lawyer with lesser fee than what Salve might have charged for fighting the case. Salve was India’s chief attorney at the ICJ in Jadhav case.
The ICJ heard the points of both India and Pakistan on Monday.
India filed a petition at ICJ, urging that it instantly suspend Jadhav’s death sentence. The country also expresses concerns that Pakistan could execute him even before the hearing at ICJ. Pakistan has alleged that Jadhav was an agent of India’s external intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). But, India has denied the claims that he has any link with the government.
India approached the ICJ against the death penalty on May 8. It alleges that Pakistan violated the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations by constantly denying it consular access to Jadhav. India, in its appeal, has said that Jadhav was abducted from Iran, where he was running a business after he retired from the Indian Navy.
