Hemant Soren Meets Australian Consul-General Bernard Lynch in Ranchi

Hemant Soren and Bernard Lynch: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met Australian Consul-General in Kolkata Bernard Lynch in Ranchi on September 16, 2026. The meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s residential office on Kanke Road. The two sides talked about ways to build stronger ties between Jharkhand and Australia.

The talks covered several areas where both sides could work together in the future. These included skills and technical education, technology and innovation, minerals, sports, tourism, and the indigenous cultures and knowledge systems of both regions.

Skills, Technology and Minerals Discussed

Skill development and technical education were important parts of the meeting. Cooperation in these fields could support training, learning and new job-related opportunities. Technology and innovation were also discussed as possible areas for future partnerships.

Minerals were another key subject. Jharkhand is known for its natural resources and industries linked to mining. Australia also has experience in the minerals sector, giving scope for possible cooperation between institutions and industries from both sides.

Soren said in a post on X, “It was a pleasure to meet Mr Bernard Lynch, Australian Consul-General in Kolkata, in Ranchi and engage in a constructive dialogue on deepening the partnership between Jharkhand and Australia.”

Sports, Tourism and Tribal Heritage

The discussions were not limited to business and investment. Sports, tourism and the rich tribal heritage of Jharkhand were also included.

Soren said, “Our discussions covered areas of mutual interest and significant potential for collaboration, including skills and technical education, technology and innovation, minerals, sports, tourism, and the rich indigenous cultures and knowledge systems of our two regions.”

Jharkhand has forests, waterfalls, lakes and other natural attractions along with its tribal and cultural traditions. These areas could support future tourism and cultural exchanges with Australia.

Officials Present at the Meeting

The meeting was attended by Jharkhand Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar and Angelina Nair, Senior Research and Visit Officer at the Australian Consulate-General in Kolkata.

Bernard Lynch had also earlier met Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar at Lok Bhawan. Their discussion included tourism, culture, education and skill development.
