In a historic performance, the Indian pair triumphed over the Koreans with a score of 16-10, earning India its second medal at the prestigious event. Bhaker’s achievement is particularly noteworthy as she becomes the first Indian post-independence to secure two medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games.
Earlier, Bhaker had claimed the bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event. It’s a significant milestone since British-Indian athlete Norman Pritchard bagged two silver medals in the 200m sprint and 200m hurdles during the 1900 Olympics, a feat accomplished in the pre-independence era.
