Medicare Increase 2025: It should be noted that Social Security Administration (SSA) determines income-related adjustments based on the latest tax data available from the IRS, typically using 2023 tax returns for 2025 calculations.

Beneficiaries subject to income-related premium adjustments will receive notices from SSA by year’s end, detailing the changes and providing information on how to request a review if they believe their income situation has changed.

Medicare Increase 2025: Other adjustments

According to RRB, in 2025, the standard Medicare Part B premium will rise to $185.00, up $10.30 from 2024, with an annual deductible of $257. Some beneficiaries may pay less due to cost-of-living adjustments for Social Security.

Higher-income beneficiaries will pay income-adjusted premiums ranging from $259.00 to $628.90, depending on their income, with the highest rate for those earning over $500,000. About 8% of beneficiaries are affected.

Part D premiums will also vary by plan, with income-related adjustments between $13.70 and $85.80 for those with higher incomes.

The Railroad Retirement Board will withhold Part B and Part D premiums, along with any income-related adjustments, from beneficiaries’ benefits. Beneficiaries can also arrange for Part C and D premiums to be withheld through their insurance plans.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses IRS data from the previous year to determine income-related adjustments, with notices sent by the end of the year detailing any changes and instructions for requesting a review if income has changed.
