The Delhi high court on Friday told Republic TV’s founder, Arnab Goswami, to respect Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor’s right to remain silent in the ongoing investigation into his wife, Sunanda Pushkar’s death case.

As a response to the order, Tharoor wrote on his Facebook page and said, “My duty is to co-operate with the police, courts, legally-constituted authorities. Not with a witch-hunt by a “banana republic” channel.”

The court also sought the channel’s reply on Tharoor’s plea to stop them from ‘misreporting’ Sunanda’s case.

Earlier, the Congress MP had filed a criminal as well as a civil defamation case against Goswami and Republic TV for alleged defamatory remarks linked to the death of his wife.

“I am a strong advocate of freedom of the press but this does not include the license to lie”, Tharoor had said.

Sunanda was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the suite of a five-star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014.
