An Indian Air Force Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft has gone missing after it lost radio contact in Assam’s Tezpur, near China border on Tuesday.

The fighter jet, with two pilots on board, took off from Salonibari in Assam at 10.30 am on Tuesday.

The aircraft’s fleet was facing some engine troubles and poor serviceability.

“The Sukhoi aircraft went missing near Tezpur while on a routine training sortie when it lost contact with radars. Two pilots were on board the plane,” a senior IAF official said, hinting that the plane might have crashed.

In March this year, India had signed a pact with Russia for a long-term supply of spares and technical help.

IAF has lost seven of the 240 Sukhoi-30 MKI jets till date. They have crashed since 2009. On March 15th this year, a Sukhoi- MKI plane had crashed in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, where three villagers were injured.

As of now, the jet is overdue.
