In recent developments, it has been reported that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR in connection to a case regarding alleged Rs 3,250 crore ICICI Bank-Videocon loan. CBI on Thursday morning conducted raids at the Videocon offices in Mumbai and Aurangabad, and also covered Nupower Renewables and Supreme Energy Pvt Ltd offices at Nariman point.

While Nupower is controlled by Deepak Kochchar, husband of former ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar, Videocon Group is controlled by Venugopal Dhoot.

It is alleged that Videocon promoter Venugopal Dhoot allegedly invested crores of Rupees in Nupower months after the Videocon group got Rs 3,250 crore as loan from the ICICI Bank in 2012.

Worth mentioning here is that the CBI had registered the preliminary probe against Deepak Kochhar and Venugopal Dhoot, chairman of Videocon group, to look into alleged wrongdoings in the Rs 40,000 crore loan made by a consortium of lenders.

The agency has now converted the preliminary investigation into an FIR which means a full blown investigation has been started by the agency after registration of a case. The details of the FIR and names of the accused are awaited. It is not yet known whether the CBI has named Chanda Kochhar in the FIR or not.

In October 2018, Chanda Kochhar resigned the bank, six months before her current tenure was to end, amid allegations of loans for favours and conflict of interest.
