The Indian intelligence agencies have issued alerts about a possible terror attack by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Delhi and Mumbai, or in border areas of Punjab and Rajasthan.
The agencies said a group of 20-21 LeT terrorists may have entered the country from Pakistan, and have subdivided themselves into smaller groups.
Sources said that these men have been trained by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.
Police have issued an advisory to tighten security and strengthen anti-terror measures at Metro and railway stations, airports, hotels popular among tourists, crowded markets, religious places and stadiums in Delhi. The alert says the terrorists are planning for a “spectacular terrorist incident,” to attract the media.
Intelligence officers suspect that the infiltrators may carry out a medium intensity blast by a suicide bomber at a crowded location. Besides tightening the security, police are also asked to conduct proper frisking and checking.
Earlier in May, a top US intelligence official had warned that Pakistan-based terrorist groups were planning to attack India.
