We inhabit a harsh universe. Due to miscommunications, maltreatment, lack of trust, discrimination, and cultural discord, the global society seems to place less emphasis on peace. There is no reason why the universe cannot exist in some form of harmony. We are indebted to the United Nations for assisting to remind us that there is good in the world. International Day of Friendship was first introduced in 2011; this special day goes beyond connecting individuals and establishes bridges between cultures, countries, and even ideologies.
Friendship and connections are synonymous with bonding, and fostering these ties involves promoting a global commitment to and understanding of diversity and inclusion in addition to sharing a trait, characteristic, or favourite pastime with another individual or group. Even with our differences, we can discover areas of agreement. Physical appearances, divergent opinions, political views, musical preferences, and other factors are not grounds for separating individuals. Relationships are more complex than that, and every July, the United Nations endeavours to promote kindness and community.
A simple note, a coffee date, a concert outing, or an excursion to the mall are all ways to celebrate friendships and discover shared interests. Again, we share more similarities than we realise. And any notion that reduces the amount of hatred and disdain in the world is one that we would like to see spread. We’d like to believe that we all share something in common.
World Friendship Day was first proposed in 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organisation whose mission is to promote a tranquil culture through the promotion of friendship.
