Punjab De Agenda Committee Chairman: Akali Dal Waris Punjab De has named Iqbal Singh Jhundan, a former Shiromani Akali Dal leader, as head of its discussion and agenda group. The group will look at major concerns in Punjab, such as social, economic, farming, and political matters.
The party made the announcement on Friday, October 9, 2026. It named Baldeep Singh, a retired revenue officer, as convener. Gangveer Rathore has been picked as secretary-member. The team will speak with people from many parts of society to help draft the party’s next set of policies and its political plan.
Tarsem Singh, the party’s acting president, said the group includes scholars, legal specialists, social workers, journalists, past government staff, and members linked to farmers and employees.
The committee list also has Sikh scholar and historian Dr Sukhpreet Singh Udoke. Other names include Jaswinder Singh Jahangir, who led employees earlier. Professor Gurmeet Singh Dhanoa is also part of the group. Journalist Gurpreet Singh Mandiani has a seat in the committee. It also includes retired Additional Deputy Commissioner Arvinder Pal Singh, neurosurgeon Dr Dipesh Batra, senior journalist Karamjit Singh, advocate Sarabjit Singh, and retired irrigation engineer Balwinder Singh.
Harpreet Kaur Phillaur, who heads the party’s women’s wing, will contribute to discussions on women-related issues. Advocate Gurdeep Singh, known for his campaign against Punjab’s land pooling policy, and young writer and poet Harpreet Singh Baba Beli are also part of the panel.
The committee should point out the big problems in Punjab. It is also meant to speak with different groups and share ideas for real fixes. The results will guide the party as it sets its policy goals and maps its next political steps.

The committee plans to talk about topics that shape daily life in Punjab. This includes water supply, farming, and issues faced by farmers. It will also cover work related concerns raised by employees, support for young people, and matters tied to women. Social justice and wider economic growth will be part of the talks too.
Talks may also include Sikh community issues. These will match the party’s stated emphasis on concerns linked to the Sikh community.
The panel plans to collect views from many parts of society. It wants to do more than only consult party leaders. Still, the party has not shared a clear schedule for when the committee will finish its work. It has also not published the committee agenda in full.
Jhundan joined Akali Dal Waris Punjab De in August 2026. Before that, he led a 13 member group. The task was to look at why the Shiromani Akali Dal lost support in elections. The group proposed several steps. They said new leaders should take charge. They also pushed for a rule like “one family, one MLA.” They wanted the president to serve for two years. They also called for an apology over errors during the party’s 2007 to 2017 years in Punjab.
Now, the new committee is working on the party’s agenda. There are still other issues that matter too. These include formal registration, possible election ties, and how candidates will be picked.
What comes next is still being shaped. The agenda committee is likely to meet stakeholders. It will also study the big public policy problems in Punjab. After that, it may suggest what the party should focus on. The results may show how Waris Punjab De plans to deal with farming, water use, jobs, youth well being, and social justice.
