The Jammu-Srinagar national highway will remain closed on Wednesday for the second consecutive day due to heavy landslides, reported IANS. Authorities reported that there have been colossal landslides in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir blocking and wrecking major parts of the roads.

In places around Mehar, clearance of the landslide stuck roads and building of a new road in the washed away portions have begun and is expected to be complete by Wednesday afternoon, the official added.

“But keeping the safety of the travelers in view, it has been decided that no movement of traffic will be allowed on the highway,” he said.

To ensure the flow of traffic, National Highways Authority of India officials have said that the 9.5 km long Nashri-Chenani tunnel would be thrown open for the traffic in March. The tunnel will shorten the Jammu-Srinagar journey time by nearly two hours.
