All three were reportedly from Bandh Basti near the colliery.
Local villagers, police and CCL officials arrived at the scene to assist with the rescue. The injured were taken to a local hospital but referred for further treatment as their injuries were severe.
Initial reports suggest that none of those trapped by the incident worked for Central Coalfields Limited. They were local residents who had travelled to the stockyard to gather waste/rejected coal.

There is also concern that unsafe coal gathering practices could have happened. However it is yet to be confirmed what actually caused the incident.
