Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh is tensed after a mentally-challenged Muslim man allegedly vandalized a Shiva temple on Friday morning. The incident led to stone pelting in four different parts of the district including a mosque and a temple campus. This eventually caused communal tension and a market shutdown, the police said.
Annoyed over the alleged insult to religious sentiments, hundreds of locals blocked the Hazaribagh-Dhanbad national highway following the Mahamaya Mandir in Bishnugarh block was vandalised. Situated about 160 kilometers from capital Ranchi, the temple had a statue of Rajabali Dwarpal. It was allegedly damaged by 25-year-old Ayub Ahmad, local sources told Hindustan Times.
Following stone-pelting was reported from Atthara Chowk, main road, and the area of a temple and near a mosque.
The police had to resort to lathi-charge in a few of the affected areas to scatter the mobs.
