An elderly woman suffering from diarrhea died in Jamshedpur earlier this week as the doctors at MGM Hospital insisted the son to bring the recently launched Ayushman Bharat card first. Reportedly, it took nearly six hours to get the card made, and when the son returned to be with his mother, he found she was already dead.
The Ayushman Bharat-Jan Arogya scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday from Ranchi.
Local media reports said Bhaktu Rabidas, son of 80-year-old Reeta Devi, had brought her mother for treatment at MGM Hospital Jamshedpur on Monday. The report quoting Rabidas on Tuesday said he was asked by the doctors to first bring the Ayushman card.
Denied for treatment without Ayushman card, the lady passed away, following which Rabidas reportedly tore off the card and took the body back to his village.

However, Hospital superintendent, SN Jha denied the accusations saying that, “The patient was in a serious condition on her arrival and was given medical care in the emergency ward. No one on duty asked them to get the card as we have not rolled out the services under Ayushman scheme yet.
