Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) assembly passed a resolution for implementing the Goods and Service Tax (GST) amidst protest by opposition parties on Wednesday. J&K Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu on Saturday had said that the state may clear the legislation on the indirect tax regime by 6 July.
In the meantime, people have started stocking up on necessary commodities considering the crises triggered by non-implementation of GST. It is being discussed in the state assembly for execution.
According to officials of Lakanpur Inter-state Toll Plaza in Kathua district, there has been a drop in trucks carrying supplies and goods to the valley state. The number of trucks crossing the toll plaza has reduced to 200-300 from 2000 before 1 July.
Hundreds of industrial units have blocked production as bills and supply problems caused by non-implementation of GST in the state.
