Jharkhand Polls: Hemant Soren leads from Dumka, Barhait assembly seats

JMM candidate Hemant Soren has finally secured a lead from Dumka seat against BJP’s Lois Marandi. He has maintained his lead in Barhait seat.

As the counting of votes begins, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and the Chief Ministerial candidate of the opposition coalition Hemant Soren is leading in Dumka.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s working president and former chief minister Hemant Soren is maintaining the lead in both the constituencies he is contesting on. Soren established an early lead in Dumka while he recently raced ahead in Barhait. Both reserved seats are considered JMM strongholds. Soren had lost out on Dumka in 2014, while he is the sitting MLA from Barhait.

Soren is contesting against outgoing social welfare minister Lois Marandi of the BJP are in the fray for this bell-weather seat.

In 2014, two-time MLA Soren had lost the contest in Dumka to BJP’s Lois, who reportedly won with 69,760 votes. Dumka is an important seat in the Santhal Pargana region of the state and is also considered the JMM’s stronghold.
