Delhi Police on Monday arrested Shashank Sharma, a resident of Rohini in New Delhi, in connection with the assault on three youth who were transporting cattle.

Sharma has claimed to be a member of People For Animals, an NGO chaired by BJP leader and Union Minister Maneka Gandhi.

On Saturday night, three men were assaulted in East Delhi’s Kalkaji area allegedly by PFA members.

The victims claimed that they were attacked by the goons, travelling by vehicles that had PFA stickers, in the presence of Delhi Police officials.

The incident took place less than 100 metres from Kalkaji police station. Later that day, PFA disabled its website, which carried Gaurav Gupta and his brother Saurabh Gupta as members of its Delhi unit, Indian Express reported.

PFA trustee Gauri Maulekhi said the NGO could not be held responsible for the actions of “lakhs of people” who were its members
