Kashmir: One BSF constable killed in ceasefire violation, six civilians injured

A BSF constable on Thursday was killed and six civilians were injured as Pakistan violated ceasefire in RS Pura and Arnia sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. The constable, identified as Jitender Kumar from Bihar, sustained a splinter injury during mortar shelling from across the border.

Till now, up to 30 people have been injured in Pakistani firing since last week, while two people including a BSF personnel and a six-year-old boy, have been killed.

As reported by locals in RS Pura and Arnia, the mortar shelling was so intense that it could be heard from more than 20 kilometers away. Over a dozen BSF border outposts were affected due to the shelling, sources said, adding that BSF troops were retaliating.

The mortar shelling began along the International Border after BSF foiled an infiltration attempt by a group of terrorists at Bobiya in Hiranagar sector, on the intervening night of October 19-20, has forced many to migrate to safer places.

Schools falling in border areas have been shut and camps at safe zones have been set up.Those still staying in the affected areas have been asked not to venture out of their houses during shelling
