Kerala bypoll result: UDF candidate PK Kunhalikutty wins

As per the results of the Malappuram bye-poll, Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) legislator candidate PK Kunhalikutty bagged a clear win by 171,038 lakh votes. The election was held on April 12.

The winning party remains ahead of the closest opposition the Communist Party of India-Marxist candidate and youth leader MB Faisal throughout the counting process; while BJP remained in the third position.

The vote counting began on 8AM and ended at 12 noon. 71.33 per cent of the total electorate had voted in the elections. The Malappuram bye-election was called after the death of sitting MP, E Ahamed of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in February. The counting of votes took place at government college in Malappuram where a tight security cover was deployed.
