An island in Kochi known as Kakkathuruth is internationally acclaimed for its natural beauty has been completely isolated from the mainland amid the lockdown imposed due to coronavirus pandemic. The island was converted to a tourist centre, the residents out in the island had not received any help.
The bridge construction has been stopped in the island halfway leading to the rusting of columns. This services on the island were also stopped as part of preventive measures against coronavirus spread.
There are 400 families on the island.
Government has started a canoe service, but there are no passengers. As no fish markets are functioning, fishes caught can’t be sold leaving the island residents to starve. The residents of the island had earnestly requested self-government institutions to help them and bring essential food items.
