Kerala Synagogue Arson Case: The probe into the suspected arson at the Kadavumbhagam Synagogue in Cochin, Kerala, has been expanded by the police. They are looking into suspicious online chats, possible crypto transactions, and the involvement of a mysterious person known as ‘Boss’.

Fire was ignited at Blossom Nursery in proximity of the historically significant Jewish community on October 12, 2026 at dawn time, when a total of thirty-two-year-old Ebin B Paul from the village of Puthencruz in the district of Ernakulam was taken into custody as a suspect in this matter. Now, detectives are examining whether he was acting on his own or received instructions via the Internet.

They are also assessing if there could be connections between his actions and other incidences and individuals beyond India, though no such broader conspiracy seems yet to have come into focus definitively.

Who Is ‘Boss’? Police Examine Telegram Chats

Among other things, one question in the investigation relates to who the person alleged to be called “Boss” was.

Police believe that Ebin spoke to them over online channels and possibly got instructions targeting certain locations and recording videos of these events as proof.

Latest developments related to the case were made public by investigators on October 17 when they requested further details regarding the accused’s account from telegram and more specifically the identity (or geographic location) of Boss.

Ebin has supposedly confessed to meeting up with the person at least once but has also stated that it was done via online communication only. Meanwhile, police are looking into whether messages he had posted offering to do contract jobs drew the eye of his alleged handler. Investigators have been trying to establish who sent Ebin the other communications as well as whether there were others involved in planning the arson attack.

Cryptocurrency Payments Under Investigation

The investigators are also examining a potential financial trail that might establish a motive for committing such a heinous act. Preliminary reports suggest there could be a trail of payments possibly through cryptocurrency exchanged for the accused carrying out certain targeted acts and providing video evidence.

Police are scrutinizing the accused’s digital communication as well as their financial transaction history to figure out if and by whom monies were exchanged. The suspects’ financial trails could potentially give investigators important insights into whether this was an isolated incident or a planned operation. But those aspects, the alleged transactions and the person financing the attack continue to be investigated.

Possible Links to Other Attacks

Additionally, police are looking into whether there could be links between this case and another incident where a fire broke out at a used-car showroom in Muvattupuzha last month. Reports suggest that investigators have identified videos on the accused’s phone which might relate back to the earlier incident.

His involvement will be considered during the broader investigation. Investigators have said they are examining suspicious messages relating to Jewish places of worship and potential attacks elsewhere in Indian cities. Although these raise questions over additional possible attack targets, investigators need to assess their legitimacy, context and significance before making conclusions.

Has UAPA Been Invoked?

However, as per the most recent update received till date on October 17, police have not made use of any provision of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Reportedly, the investigating team felt that there was no sufficient proof to make use of the law. The officials said that this would be decided based on the new evidence and legal opinion.

The next step in the investigation of the incident in the synagogue in Kerala will be finding out who is ‘Boss’ along with verifying the cryptocurrency route and whether the accused is involved in any other incidents.

Moreover, the investigators will be studying electronic gadgets to determine the motive behind the crime and find out more accomplices.
