At a time when the #MeToo movement is gaining rapid momentum, focusing on cases of sexual harassment at workplace, minister for women and child development Maneka Gandhi took to Twitter calling upon women to report the offences to the sexual harassment portal of the ministry.
Gandhi posted tweets on Wednesday to say, “Sexual harassment at workplace is a violent crime. WCD has put in place the legal and administrative structure, along with alternate mechanism, for grievance redressal to handle cases of sexual harassment. I have been highlighting these from time to time in my posts. #DrawTheLine”
She further tweeted saying, “#DrawTheLine I request working women and organisations to help spread the word about http://www.shebox.nic.in/-Government’s dedicated portal to file complaints of sexual harassment at work.”
The sexual harassment electronic Box (SHe-Box) is an effort by the government to provide women single-window access, irrespective of their work status, regardless of whether they work in the organised or unorganised, private or public sector, to facilitate registering complaints related to sexual harassment.
Any woman facing workplace sexual harassment can register their complaint through this portal. Once a complaint is submitted to the SHe-Box, it will be sent directly to the concerned authority with jurisdiction to take action into the matter.
The registration of complaint through SHe-Box is very easy. The complainant however is required to have a valid e-mail ID.
