Lokesh extends support to Amaravati protesters on 300th day

Amaravati, Oct 12 (IANS) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) General Secretary and opposition leader in Andhra Pradesh, Nara Lokesh, on Monday visited the people protesting the trifurcation of the state capital and extended his solidarity to the protesters as the agitation reached 300 days.

“Visiting farmers, farm labourers and women who have been agitating for the past 300 days for Amaravati capital. My tour started from Penumaka village,” said Lokesh.

He said the protesters did not back off even after the government allegedly caused many difficulties, and praised that their bold move is inspiring.

Wearing a mask, the Stanford University-educated TDP leader met the protesters, including a number of womenl, and extended his support.

He also sat with them and addressed meetings, donning a green towel.

A placard held by him read: “We cannot change our mother, we cannot change Amaravati.”

Another placard held by TDP leader Jayadev Galla read: “This is not a graveyard, this is the foundation for AP development.”

Hundreds of people have been protesting Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s decision to trifurcate the state capital into three, proposing the seat of high court in Kurnool, legislature in Amaravati and executive capital in Visakhapatnam.
