1,500 shanties destroyed by fire at Dhobi Ghat in Lucknow’s Aishbagh

Lucknow, Aishbagh: In a shocking incident, more than 1500 shanties were destroyed by a massive fire that broke out at Dhobhi Ghat in the Ramnagar area of Aishbagh, the incident took place on Sunday night.

The residents living in the area said the fire broke out because of some mischief-maker, however, according to police the incident took place after a gas cylinder caught fire. It should be noted that the fire was doused after four hours.

According to the police, the fire broke out around 12.30 am in a shanty of Babu Ram and soon it engulfed the entire neighbourhood. The residents staying in the shanties ran away to save their and their family’s lives. They also informed the police and fire department.

Further, when the fire department reached the spot, the fire had already engulfed around 100 shanties, later 1,500 shanties were gutted by the time cops doused the fire.

According to the Lucknow Police Commissioner’s statement, there were no casualties except for shanties. He also added that people living in that area were labourers who belonged to different UP districts. A minor girl received minor injuries but is stable and out of danger.

Vijay Kumar Singh, Chief fire officer of Lucknow said 15 fire tenders were pressed in the job to douse the fire. The fire broke out after a gas cylinder caught fire and later 6 others caught fire.
