New Delhi, January 4: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday, January 4, announced that he will not take the COVID-19 vaccine shot initially as he feels that priority groups listed by the government should get the preference. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said that he would wait for his turn.
“I have decided that I will not get vaccinated for now. First, it should be administered to others,” the 61-year-old said, adding that, “My turn should come afterwards. We have to work to ensure that priority groups are administered with the vaccine.”
Chouhan’s remark comes after the DCGI VG Somani gave approval to two coronavirus vaccines, one developed by Bharat Biotech and the other developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University, for emergency-use.
Soon after the approval of COVAXIN and Covidshield, Indian National Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor, Jairam Ramesh and Anand Sharma raised questions on approval to Bharat Biotech’s vaccine, saying that it can prove dangerous.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the approval of two India-made vaccines will make every Indian proud. “This shows the eagerness of our scientific community to fulfil the dream of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, at the root of which is care and compassion,” he added.
