The effect of price rise of vegetables seems to come down heavily on a Mumbai resident. A 54-year-old man had stolen tomatoes worth Rs 57,000 from the shop of Jagat Shrivastava in Dahisar on 18 July. He was arrested by Mumbai’s Dahisar Police on Wednesday.

Earlier, over 300 kilograms of tomatoes were stolen from the vegetable market in Mumbai’s Dahisar on 20 July. The tomatoes were worth Rs 70,000.

In an attempt to help locals and farmers to save the vegetable, the Congress on 2 August came up with the idea to set up a tomato bank in the country, as prices of tomatoes were going up like crazy.

Amid the protest launched against the centre over the recent hike in tomato prices, the Congress opened one-of-its-own-kind ‘State Bank of Tomato’ in Lucknow.
