Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) member, Sanjeev Moily, on Wednesday urged the party High Command to appoint Mallikarjun Kharge as the president of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
In a letter to Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, Moily said, “If party is considering a change in the leadership, then Mallikarjun Kharge (Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha) should be appointed as the AICC president while Rahul Gandhi can continue as vice-president.”
He further claimed that the move will “unite the party”.
“Kharge is the face of backward and Dalits in the party. And appointing him as the chief can boost party’s prospect in the upcoming elections,” Sanjeev said. He added, “To attract votes of backward communities, BJP nominated Ramnath Kovind for the post of President of India. And they are definitely going to use him as a weapon in elections. We too should be ready for the challenge.”
Moily is considered very close to the former union minister and senior Congress leader, Janardhan Poojary.
“I’m a dedicated party worker and have always worked sincerely for the party. I request you to consider my suggestion for the sake of the party. It’s the right time to take decisions in the interest of the party,” Sanjeev said.
