She reassured Hindi-speaking residents, stressing that they are integral to the state’s community fabric, amid a broader stance of unity in diversity.

Highlighting the significant presence of Hindi-speaking individuals at the rally, Banerjee pointed out that Bengal houses 1.5 crore migrant workers, while 22 lakh Bengalis work across India.

Mamata warns BJP of ‘dire political backlash’ if it doesn’t stop ‘harassing’ Bengali-speaking people

She urged residents to cherish their identity and remember Bengal’s pivotal freedom struggle role, emphasizing inclusivity and shared heritage.

The language debate has been reignited since the ‘Shahid Dibas’ celebrations, calling attention to alleged harassment faced by Bengali speakers. Banerjee advocated for heightened public initiatives to address these issues, asserting the importance of protecting the Bengali language and culture in a globally diverse context.
