While instances of mob-lynching are resurfacing across states in India, a collective of activists has come together to organise a National Campaign Against Mob Lynching. The campaign demands the imposition of a Manav Suraksha Kanoon against the crime of mob lynching which has claimed many lives lately.

The campaign to bring Manav Suraksha Kanoon (MaSuKa)– Human Protection Law into force while trending on Twitter, comes in the background of the rising mob lynching in various states of India especially in North India where those committing the act are mostly at large. In 2017 itself more than three cases of Mob lynching has taken a toll on human lives.

In the month May, 6 persons were killed after being attacked by a mob in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand which later worsened the situation in the state. They were lynched on the suspicion of kidnapping which was later proven false. In the month of April, a Muslim man was killed after an angry mob attacked him while transporting cows in India. Notably, in the month of June, a 25-year-old man was beaten and tortured in Rajasthan’s Churu district.

The campaign includes significant faces such as Pankhuri Pathak, Kanhaiya Kumar, Shehla Rashid, Gurmehar Kaur, Tehseen Poonawala, Jignesh Mevani, Swara Bhaskar and many more. Sanjay Hegde will be the head of the drafting committee of the law.
