After resigning from the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday evening, political corridors are now abuzz with speculations over BSP supremo, Mayawati’s next move.

Mayawati is likely to contest the by-poll to the Phulpur Lok Sabha seat, which will be vacated by sitting MP, Keshav Prasad Maurya, who is now deputy chief minister in Uttar Pradesh. Maurya is likely to quit his seat after the election for the Vice-President is over on 5 August, sources told Newsd.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister is expected to be the joint candidate of Mahagathbandhan formed by alliance of the Samajwadi Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party, and the Congress. It seems that the parties have learned their lesson after the Uttar Pradesh assembly election debacle wherein only Congress-SP had a pre-poll alliance. From the Mahagathbandhan, Mayawati is supposedly contesting from Phulpur, where as Samajwadi Party is expected to contest from Yogi Adityanath’s constituency, Gorakhpur, backed by Mahagathbandhan.
