Meerabai Jayanti 2020 is observed on October 31 annually. The great poet and passionate devotee of Lord Krishna was regarded as one of the most significant Saints of the Vaishnava Bhakti movement.
The Rajput princess was born in 1498 in Rajasthan’s Kudaki. Though she was married to Bhoj Raj, the ruler of Chittor, she did not take any interest in her spouse because she believed herself to be married to Lord Krishna. It is believed that she miraculously merged with the idol of Krishna in circa 1547 at the age of 49.
Traditionally, Mirabai’s poems are called pada, a term that 14th-century preachers used for small spiritual songs. It usually consists of simple rhythms and contains a refrain within itself. Her anthology of songs is known as Padavali. She used Vraja-bhasha, a dialect of Hindi spoken in Vrindavan and its surroundings in her poems. It is popularly believed that in a state of ecstasy he disappeared at the Krishna temple in Dwarka and finally joined her Lord.
