The life story of Mithali Raj, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, will now be shown through a biopic, declared Viacom18 Motion Pictures on Tuesday. The veteran cricketer hopes her story inspires young girls to look at sports as a career.  The rights for the biopic of the cricket star have been acquired by the studio already.

“I am extremely happy with this association with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. Hoping that this movie inspires more people especially young girls to take up sports as a career,” Mithali said.

Mithali has several records on her name. She is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket. Besides, she is the only woman cricketer to beat the 6,000 run mark in ODIs and also the first player to attain seven consecutive 50s in ODIs. Apart from that, she is the first Indian to have led the national team to an ICC ODI World Cup final two times, 2005 and 2017.

The Arjuna awardee, Mithali was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2015.
