The municipality has carried out demolitions at the Garhakota residence of Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Gopal Bhargava in Sagar district. A wall built to protect the trees and flowers planted outside his residence was demolished.

The Congress took the opportunity to take a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state and said the demolition was a result of the internal fight brewing within the saffron party.

Gopal Bhargava, senior minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government, is an MLA from Rehli Assembly constituency in Sagar district and his residence is located in Garhakota. He had planted plants and trees outside his residence and built a wall to protect them. The municipal staff demolished this wall on Tuesday saying it was built on encroached land.

The Congress took a dig at the government over the demolition. Narendra Saluja, media coordinator of Congress state unit President Kamal Nath, said the “BJP’s internal fighting and factionalism is behind the demolition drive removing the wall and temporary nets put up for the protection of plants and flowers outside the private bungalow at Garhakota of PWD Minister Gopal Bhargava. The way the action was taken is extremely wrong, it is going to hurt the image of the minister.”

Saluja said on the one hand those defecting from other parties and ‘sell outs’ are being promoted in the BJP and on the other hand the loyal leaders who have been with the party for a long time are being sidelined. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should take cognizance and take action against the guilty municipal officials. The CM should stop this internal conflict between the ministers.
