With the exception of people who are naturally organised neat freaks, we can all acknowledge that our rooms occasionally become disorganised. National Clean Your Room Day is observed on May 10, to the delight of parents and more refined family and acquaintances. It’s good to have a holiday that reminds us to get organised — starting with our rooms — for those of us who may need it (or who have family, friends, or roommates who do).
Typically, children and adolescents are responsible for messy quarters, but some children have messy parents. Even if they are not messy, it is amusing to observe parents whine about doing tasks. You can even assist your parents in deciding which of their old possessions to discard or donate!
Make a plan to redecorate your room while you clean if you view cleaning as a tedious duty. Perhaps you could reconfigure your furniture, add plants or posters, or you could choose a theme for your room. Additionally, you can give yourself an incentive to keep your room tidy well beyond May 10.
Go out and celebrate your clean room after you’ve completed cleaning. Hey, it’s difficult for some of us to maintain organisation and hygiene, so choose something to reward yourself with when you’re done. Perhaps you can go to a nice restaurant, purchase something pleasant for yourself, or acquire a new accessory that will complement your clean space.
