The tricolor flag was adopted as National Flag of India on July 22, 1947. The Trianga comprises of saffron, white and green with Ashok Chakra. Every year the day is observed on this day.
Mahatama Gandhi suggested the Indian National Congress in 1921 to have its own flag. Pingali Venkayya was told to design a flag with spinning wheel on color red (for Hindus) and color Green (for Muslims) on it.
First Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru proposed before the constituent assembly the horizontal tricolor with color saffron, white and green on the flag in equal proportion and Ashoka Chakra in blue printed on the white space in between after India gained independence.
The constituent assembly headed by Dr. Rajendra Prasad with everyone’s agreement passed the resolution in favor of the tricolor flag. On January 26, 1950, Tiranga became the flag of the Republic of India.
