In an effort to curb the plastic menace, Nestle India, the country’s largest food company, has started a ‘MAGGI Wrappers return’ programme for Maggi noodles at two places in Uttarakhand, under which, the customers can exchange 10 empty packets of Maggi noodles for one free packet at retail shops.

According to the reports, the plastics are not being disposed of efficiently in hill stations such as Dehradun and Mussoorie, which is the main reason for the pollution. In fact, Maggi along with PepsiCo’s Lay’s chips and Parle’s Frooti were named as the top brands causing plastic pollution in the hill stations of Uttarakhand.

Therefore, the company is now working with 250 retail shops in Dehradun and Mussoorie to execute this pilot project.

As quoted by Economic Times in one of it’s reports, Nestlé spokesperson said “We are hopeful that this will bring about a behaviour change in consumers and help create awareness for responsibly disposing of plastic waste and prevent littering.”

Nestle India will bear the cost of the free Maggi packet. The empty packets will be collected from the company by the Indian Pollution Control Association and will be disposed of responsibly.
