New Maruti WagonR Facelift: The new WagonR has turned up during testing in India. It looks like this could be one of Maruti Suzuki’s biggest hatchback updates this year. From the outside, it still keeps the same tall, boxy shape. But the real changes may sit under the body. Reports point to a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol unit. There may also be space for an underbody CNG tank.
Maruti Suzuki has not made an official word about the WagonR yet. Because of that, the figures, timing, and cost details in this report should be seen as guesses.
The car was spotted as a test mule wearing a lot of camouflage. Even so, the overall look did not jump out as fully new. Its proportions and tall-boy stance feel close to the current model.
At the front, the headlamp setup appears to stay where it is now. Still, the grille and bumper may get small tweaks. At the back, the tail lamps keep the vertical layout.
The spy shot also shows what seems to be a lower or mid level trim. It rides on steel wheels. Fog lamps were not visible. A rear wiper was also not seen on the test car.
Maruti Suzuki is slowly rolling out its 1.2 liter Z12E three cylinder petrol engine on its hatchbacks. This motor has already shown up in cars like the Swift. It also appears in the newest Baleno.
At the moment, the WagonR comes with a 1.2 liter K12N four cylinder unit. It is rated at 90.9 PS and 113.7 Nm. There is also a 1.0 liter K10C three cylinder engine option.
In the Baleno, the Z12E makes about 83 PS and 112 Nm. If WagonR gets a member of the same engine line, the final figures may change. That would depend on how the car is tuned and what gearbox it uses.
Some reports say the 1.0 liter petrol engine may stay for the base versions. Still, the final model choices and the exact powertrain setup are not locked in yet.
Right now, the WagonR 1.0 liter K10C is a three cylinder engine. In petrol form, it is rated at 68.5 PS and 91.1 Nm. The factory CNG setup makes 56.6 PS.

Another point that people keep bringing up is CNG fitment and how the kit is packaged. For the WagonR right now, Maruti installs an S-CNG system from the plant and uses a tank rated at 60 litres, measured as water equivalent.
There are reports that the next facelift may switch to a tank under the car. If that happens, the cylinder would likely sit away from the luggage area. That could mean more room in the boot.
Still, Maruti has not confirmed anything like this. The spy shots are not clear enough to prove where the tank will go. So it makes more sense to see this as a hope, not as a sure change.
From the spy images, the cabin does not look very different. Even so, Maruti could tweak the feature list in the facelift. That may include minor upgrades in areas like the screen, daily comfort items, and safety gear.
At the moment, the WagonR already comes with items such as phone support, controls on the steering wheel, ESP, ABS with EBD, and several airbags. The exact count can vary by variant.
