NIRF Rankings 2020: Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) will announce NIRF India Rankings 2020 via live webcast today i.e., June 11, 2020. National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) was launched in 2015 and first rankings were announced in 2016. The NIRF India Rankings 2020 for best universities in India would be released at 12.00 PM.
NIRF ranks Indian institutes in accordance with various categories on some pre-determined broad parameters. With each passing year, the number of institutes participation in NIRF rankings has been increased and so has the categories in which institutes are ranked.
In 2016, the institutes were ranked in only four categories which increased to nine in 2019. The year 2019 also witnessed the launch of first ARIIA rankings.
NIRF rankings, ranking for only Indian institutes, comes at the heels of THE World University Ranking and QS World Ranking in which Indian universities have unable to break into the top 100 so far.
NIRF has created an institution for ranking universities, engineering, management and pharmacy institutes of the country. Earlier there was no government organization for ranking. Private institutions used to issue racking, which raised various questions. But now government and private institutions are ranked by the government on the basis of different standards.
The NIRF rankings are awarded to institutions based on Teaching Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcome, Outreach and Inclusion, Perception.
Among the pharmacy discipline, Jamia Hamdard bagged the first rank while Punjab university and National Institute of Pharmecutical Institute Mohali stood on second and third rank, respectively.
We will create a situation when institutes from across the world will want to be listed in the Indian ranking. I request UGC to make it mandatory for all institutes and universities to participate in the Indian rankings, said HRD minister. Our student, their caliber and money will retain in India, we will reach that level, he added.

Among the law colleges of India, National Law School of India University, Bengaluru has bagged the top position with National Law University Delhi has bagged the second rank followed by NLU Hyderabad.
Under the ‘college’ category, Miranda House of Delhi University bagged the first rank followed by Lady Shri Ram and Hindu College who got the second and third rank, respectively.
Among the medical colleges of India, AIIMS Delhi is the top institute while PGIMER Chandigarh is the second best medical college. Christian Medical College has bagged the third rank.
The top two ranks in the university ranking remain same as last year as Indian Institute of Science (IISC) has again obtained the top rank in the University category followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University and Banaras Hindu University at second and third rank, respectively.

IIT Madras has topped in the category of Engineering followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay.
In the overall category, IIT Madras has topped the list followed by IISC Bengaluru and IIT Delhi.
India was the guru of the world and it is time to reclaim that position. We have to strengthen our science, culture and technical education. Apart from overall ranking, we are also releasing the top institutes in specific fields. Our education institutes are moving fast in the international rankings, said HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
I do not agree with the THE and QS ranking. Graduates of our institutes are now heading the global leading organisations. They give us low ranking based on perception and I do not agree with it, said HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal
We are dedicated to education and the students who are enrolling in our institutes, we need to make them into future leaders who will take India to new heights. We should have a feeling of healthy competition which can take our mission forward. If we have that spirit, then no one can stop us from reaching heights, said HRD Minister
The AICTE chairperson, Anil Sahasrabudhe in his address said that unlike QS and THE, the NIRF ranking also considers the contribution made by an institute to the society and the impact generated by the institute and its perception in the society.
The number of Indian institutes which registered for the NIRF ranking this year, there has been a rise of 20 per cent of institutes. This year for the first time dental institutes will also be ranked.
