AIADMK legislature party leader Edappadi K Palaniswami may swear in as chief minister on Thursday, as per a report in TOI. Palaniswami may be asked to demonstrate majority on the floor of the house in a week, thereby ruling out the likelihood of a composite floor test. As per a source in Raj Bhavan, after meeting Palaniswami and caretaker chief minister O Paneerselvam on Wednesday evening, the governor acknowledged the claim of Palaniswami.

“Palaniswami submitted a list of 124 legislators, while Paneerselvam claimed that he has the support of eight legislators. The governor now has no option but to invite Palaniswami to form the government,” said the source.

Reportedly, the governor also observed all aspects, including reports that a section of legislators have been abducted and lodged in a resort, before concluding that Palaniswami has the backing of the necessary number of legislators.

Edappadi K Palaniswami met TN governor C Vidyasagar Rao along with nine others around 7.30pm on Wednesday. He urged the governor for an invitation to form the government. “We are hoping that the governor will call us to form the government at the earliest,” former minister D Jayakumar said.

However, just after the AIADMK team concluded their meeting, OPS reached there with his squad and sought his interference to “set free” MLAs from the Koovathur resort, before taking a final decision on the ongoing crisis. “We explained the situation to the governor that most of the MLAs are unlawfully confined to the resort for nearly a week, against their wishes,” said a leader.

OPS squad also claimed that they have support from a majority of MLAs in the resort.
