A US drone air strike in Afghanistan has killed a Pakistani militant accused of attack against Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009, Pakistani security sources told media.
The US drone targeted a car carrying Qari Mohammad Yasin, aka Ustad Aslam, on Sunday in the southwestern Afghan province of Paktika bordering Pakistan, Pakistani intelligence sources told media.
Yasin and three other militants were killed in the attack. Yasin was an expert in training suicide bombers.
Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department had offered a bounty of 2 million rupees ($19,000) for Yasin, saying he was involved in the 2009 bus attack.
The attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team bus had forced Pakistan to play most of its home games in United Arab Emirates.
At least 10 gunmen had fired on the Sri Lankan bus with rifles, grenades and rockets, wounding six players and a British coach, and killing eight Pakistanis.
The attack was allegedly organised by the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
