Congress on Wednesday responded sharply to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s assertion that the party’s claims of carrying out surgical strikes were false. Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said by claiming that no surgical strikes have been carried out before, Parrkiar has insulted the armed forces.

Surjewala accused Parrikar of misleading the public and undermining the army’s sacrifices while politicising the issue for ‘political mileage’. He said the BJP has publicly devalued the sacrifices of our armed forces and tried to make political capital out of it.

He criticised BJP for putting posters of PM Modi as Lord Rama in Uttar Pradesh saying, “If army deserves full credit for the recent surgical strike, why are ‘Avengers of Uri’ posters depicting Modi ji as Lord Rama being plastered in poll-bound states?”

He took dig at Modi government’s decision to cut disability pensions for ‘combat injury’ to half. “Is Modi Govt giving credit to Army by denying OROP, Seventh Pay Commission recommendations, by refusing to acknowledge and honour commitments?” he asked.
