In a major political development on Wednesday, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Conference (NC) and Congress have decided to form an alliance, for providing a stable government to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. According to sources, the alliance would likely be declared by the Wednesday evening and after that, the alliance partners would meet governor and stake claim for forming the government. All parties have joined hands to protect the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), sources claimed.
Senior PDP leader and former Finance Minister of J&K Altaf Bukhari is leading the race for the post of Chief Minister. Sources say that while PDP president Mehbooba Mufti wanted Farooq Abdullah to lead the alliance, National Conference has decided not to be part of the government and support the PDP-Congress alliance from outside.
The Jammu and Kashmir is currently under governor’s rule which cannot be extended after it completes its six-month period on December 19. It is proposed to impose President’s rule thereafter but the 87-member assembly is not being dissolved, according to Governor Satya Pal Mallik.
