Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi attacked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government on Thursday in the Lok Sabha saying it has forgotten its promises, none of which have been fulfilled in the last two years. On the issue of rising prices of pulses, potatoes and tomatoes, he challenged the government to give the House a date on which Dal prices will come down.

Gandhi reminded Modi of his plea to the people two years ago to make him a ‘chowkidar’ of the nation instead of a prime minister. “Today under the nose of that chowkidar, Dal is being stolen,” he added. “I want to remind Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the promise he made to everyone, and now has forgotten. You can make false claims on startup India, make in India but not on rising prices.”

Gandhi ended his speech claiming the people across the country are raising just one slogan today, “Arhar Modi Arhar Modi.”

Union minister Arun Jaitley has responded, “Several steps have taken by the current government to contain inflation.” He added that when the UPA government left, price rise was at its peak. Jaitley also said the seasonal rise in food prices is common before the monsoon.
